History
The school started at 24 Saka Agbaje Street New Bodija Ibadan on September 15, 1978. It was called Saka Agbaje Preparatory Class. The aim was to prepare primary school pupils, through after-school lessons, for common entrance examinations into prime State and Federal secondary schools. The foundation class was made up of five primary six pupils from different schools in Ibadan. Within six months, parents were so impressed with the unbelievable improvement observed in their wards that they requested for the broadening of the scope of the lesson to include other primary school classes.
As pupils graduated into secondary schools, parents again appealed for the broadening of the scope of the lesson to accommodate secondary school pupils. By 1986, lessons were operating from primary up to JAMB level. As such, the basement could no longer accommodate interested pupils. Hence the lessons moved to a hired apartment at 7, Moremi Road New Bodija. Consequently, the name changed to Sonbeam Preparatory Class. It was from this hired apartment that we moved into our present permanent site on September 15 1992.
As of then, the preference was still for the traditional after-school classes. A big question then arose: what should be done with the edifice in the mornings. Hiring it out was out of the question, locking it up will be both stupid and wasteful. This was how Sonbeam Preparatory school came to be. Its aim is to educate pupils such that the beam of Jesus will reflect in the life of its pupils throughout life.

A Message From the Headmistress

Very early in life, I decided to be a teacher. I believe God granted the desire. I pursued the desire with all my heart.
Teaching is like fishing. The sea is blessed with countless number of fish. What the fisherman does is find out a way to bring out the fish from the sea. If all he does is throw millions of hooks into the sea, he will catch nothing. But if he baits his hooks with fat earthworms, he will reap a good harvest. God has given each child a talent. No child is hopeless. All that a good teacher does is find a means bring out the talent from the child. Throughout my teaching career, God has always been guiding me on how to bring out the hidden talents in children. I have used this guidance in my career most especially at Sonbeam where I have been headmistress since it was founded. Very many children some of whom the parents have given up on have been redeemed at Sonbeam . The joyful parents have thankfully returned to Sonbeam to give thanks to God. I am inviting you to join the countless number of such loving parents who want the best for their children? I am eagerly waiting for you at Sonbeam. Remember God ‘s admonition: Train your child the way that he should go. When he is old he will not depart from it.
